Frequently asked questions(FAQ)
What are the Mercedes service intervals?
For cars with a standard Flexible Services System, Mercedes Service A is a minor service. It includes the oil and filter change, the inspection of the brakes and battery, tires, operation and maintenance of the wiper and washer systems, interior and exterior vehicle lighting, hood releases, laches, and steering components. After the service, the maintenance indicator must be reset.
Mercedes Service B includes all components of Service A, but also inspections of the seat belt operation and suspension components for wear and damage, identification of leaks, lubrication and inspection of the throttle cables, the timing belt tensioner, pulley and guides and other parts.
For vehicles with Assyst Plus, Service A and Service B are the same as the Flexible Service System. Services C to F add inspections or service work that may be required.
Oil and filter changes are the basic maintenance component. The vehicle’s ASSYST Plus system calculates service needs based on driving habits, time, mileage and environmental conditions and adds the necessary additional services.
To keep the car in top condition, however, it is recommended to alternate minor and full services every 10,000 miles or one year. Checking the car regularly keeps it in perfect condition and gives you a chance to discover worn parts before they break and create major or catastrophic damage that would require a hefty repair bill.
How do I check my Mercedes service?
You can look at your Mercedes dashboard by clicking “Service” and selecting “Assyst Plus”. You will see how many miles you have until your Service A or B is due.
Does Mercedes have a service book?
The Mercedes Digital Service Booklet provides an online record of your vehicle’s service history.
What type of oil does Mercedes use?
Mercedes uses 5w30 and 10w40 quality oils. The 10w40 oil with lower viscosity is used on older engines and operates in a narrower temperature range. The 5w30 oil is a multigrade oil designed for newer vehicles with wider ambient temperature requirements. The characteristics of 5W30 oil allow it to be used all year round, in all seasons, and in temperate climates. In winter, its viscosity does not adversely affect engine start-up, and in summer or at high temperatures, there is no risk of damaging the engine due to lack of viscosity or of consuming too much fuel due to the opposite effect.
How expensive is an oil change for a Mercedes?
It is impossible to give a correct price, because it depends on the model, the manufacture year, the type of oil needed and, last but not least, the price of the worn parts detected by the inspection that need to be replaced. After how many km do I have to change the timing chain on my Mercedes?
The timing chain has a significantly longer life than the classic belt. A timing chain is pretty robust, but it is not indestructible. The Mercedes timing chain should be checked every 200,000 km or every 8 years. Symptoms of a failing Mercedes engine timing chain: check engine light illuminates; inability to start the engine; rattling noise emitting from the engine bay when starting the car or idling; misfiring engine; significant increase in fuel consumption if the timing is off; the engine could feel sluggish/ reduced power output; contaminated engine oil – metal in the oil.
To keep a proper record of all services performed on any Mercedes vehicle, the details will be logged into the manufacturer’s digital database. We do not only deal with everyday servicing and maintenance, we also rebuild engines, gearboxes, reprogram modules/keys, remap vehicles, offer DPF diagnoses, DPF cleaning and regenerating, remove seized injectors and glow plugs with hydraulic equipment, and many other various Mercedes specialist services. Our highly qualified and experienced technicians use the latest dealer level diagnostic equipment to give your vehicle a comprehensive and high-quality service.
